Mozilla Organizations

Mozilla is a global community of people creating a better Internet. We build public benefit into the Internet by creating free, open source products and technologies that improve the online experience for people everywhere.

There are several organizations that support the Mozilla community and Mozilla’s principles. They include the non-profit Mozilla Foundation as well as the wholly owned taxable subsidiary, the Mozilla Corporation. Mozilla considers itself a hybrid organization, combining non-profit and market strategies to ensure the Internet remains a shared public resource.

This page provides information about the various organizations and their relationships to each other. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact us

Mozilla Foundation

The Mozilla Foundation is a California non-profit corporation exempt from Federal income taxation under IRC 501(c)(3). The Foundation supports the existing Mozilla community and oversees Mozilla’s governance structure. It also actively seeks out new ways for people around the world to recognize and steward the Internet as a critical public resource.

Mozilla Corporation

The Mozilla Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mozilla Foundation, works with the community to develop software that advances Mozilla’s principles. This includes the Firefox browser, which is well recognized as a market leader in security, privacy and language localization. These features make the Internet safer and more accessible.

Mozilla Online is a separate organization that operates in China and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mozilla Corporation.

Community Member Organizations

There are other formal and informal organizations that are maintained by people actively involved in the community that do not have an official relationship with the Mozilla Foundation. The following is not meant to be a comprehensive list.
