New

  • Starting with Firefox for Android 128, the new tab strip feature for tablets is available for testing in Nightly builds! This enhancement makes tab management more intuitive and efficient, providing a smoother browsing experience for devices in that form factor. Please share your feedback on Google Play and/or the Mozilla Connect post to help us improve it further.

    Bug 1896355
  • Starting with Firefox 128, hovering the mouse over an unfocused tab will now display a visual preview of its contents in Nightly builds.

    Bug 1893676
  • Starting with Firefox 129, Firefox Nightly blocks third-party cookie access with Enhanced Tracking Protection's Strict mode and also in Private Browsing.

    Bug 1898255
  • Starting with Firefox 129, Firefox Nightly will automatically try to use a secure HTTPS connection whenever possible when loading a page. This behavior is known as "HTTPS-First", or "HTTPS Upgrades", and has been the default in Firefox's private browsing mode since Firefox 91. Here is a blog post from when this feature was introduced in Private Browsing.

    Bug 1719271
  • Starting with Firefox 130, we’re launching a voting feature for the stories and articles on the New Tab page. You can vote up or down by hovering over the card, helping to improve future recommendations.

    Bug 1908696
  • When suggesting a default translation language, Firefox will now take into consideration languages you have previously used for translations.

    Bug 1866827
  • Firefox will now temporarily remember when users grant permissions to sites (e.g. geolocation). Temporary permissions will be removed either after one hour or when the tab is closed.

    Bug 1754005

Changed

  • Starting with Firefox for Android 131, HLS playlist support was deprecated in Nightly builds. Extended testing showed no adverse impact as newer playback technologies have been widely adopted by websites.

    Bug 1911651

Developer

  • As part of the ongoing updates to SVG 2, SVGGraphicsElement.nearestViewportElement and SVGGraphicsElement.farthestViewportElement have been officially removed. Please note that these properties have had deprecation warnings since February.

    Bug 1914185
  • Firefox now supports text fragments, which allows users to link directly to a specific portion of text in a web document via a special URL fragment. (Learn more)

    Bug 1914877

Web Platform

  • Support for Cookies Having Independent Partitioned State (CHIPS) was now added, allowing developers to opt a cookie into storage partitioned per top-level site. (Learn more)

    Bug 1908160
  • Starting with Firefox Nightly 131, support for the non-mandatory options argument to getBBox will get the bounding box of the element, including its stroke (e.g. element.getBBox({"stroke": true})). (Learn more)
