Title: GetProperty function can bypass security
checks
Impact: Critical
Announced: October 9, 2012
Reporter: Alice White
Products: Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey
Fixed in: Firefox 16
Firefox ESR 10.0.8
Thunderbird 16
Thunderbird ESR 10.0.8
SeaMonkey 2.13
Description
Mozilla community member Alice White reported that when the
GetProperty function is invoked through JSAPI, security checking
can be bypassed when getting cross-origin properties. This potentially allowed
for arbitrary code execution.
In general these flaws cannot be exploited through email in the Thunderbird and SeaMonkey products because scripting is disabled, but are potentially a risk in browser or browser-like contexts in those products.
